A synthetic derivative of the amino acid lysine, used as a hemostatic agent to prevent or reduce excessive blood loss in various clinical settings. It works by reversibly blocking the lysine binding sites on plasminogen, thereby inhibiting the dissolution of fibrin clots (fibrinolysis). It is critically important in surgery, trauma care, and to manage heavy menstrual bleeding.
