Clindamycin

A lincosamide antibiotic used for the treatment of serious bacterial infections, particularly those caused by anaerobic bacteria, or in patients allergic to penicillin. It inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit. It is available in oral, intravenous, and topical forms, with the topical formulation commonly used to help control acne and other skin infections. Treatment must be completed as prescribed to prevent the development of resistant organisms, and patients are monitored for potential severe diarrhea post-treatment.
