Piperacillin
Broad-spectrum Antibiotic
An extended-spectrum penicillin antibiotic effective against a broad range of bacteria, including Pseudomonas aeruginosa and anaerobes. It is almost always used in combination with the beta-lactamase inhibitor Tazobactam (Pip/Tazo) to prevent degradation by bacterial enzymes. This combination is a mainstay treatment for serious hospital-acquired infections, including complicated appendicitis and severe pneumonia.
