An irreversible inhibitor of the enzyme $\text{GABA}$ transaminase, leading to persistently high concentrations of the inhibitory neurotransmitter $\text{GABA}$ in the brain. It is used to treat refractory complex partial seizures and is the first-line treatment for infantile spasms (West syndrome).
